One of the state’s top paid tourist attractions is hiring more than 500 seasonal workers as it prepares for a busy summer in North Alabama.
Point Mallard Park is seeking employees who can work 10 to 40 hours per week at the water park on 2901 Point Mallard Drive in Decatur. Jason Lake, superintendent at Point Mallard, said they need lifeguards, grounds keepers, retail staff, and maintenance and food service workers for the water park.
They are also hiring added help at the golf course and campground.
“(Workers) must have a dependable way to get to work,” Lake said. “Other than that just be willing to learn.”
Most of the positions are minimum wage, but Lake said they offer opportunities for advancement. Residents must be at least 16 years of age to apply.
Point Mallard hasn’t had as many applicants this year.
“There are several reasons,” Lake said. “All of which are connected to the very warm winter.”
The water park will open May 27 on Memorial Day weekend. Prospective workers can visit www.pointmallardpark.com/employment to download an application.
Lake said traffic this summer will depend on several factors, all of which relate to the weather.
“We have so many activities at the park and so many fun things to do,” he said. “Like everyone looking to cool off on a hot day, we’re always hoping mother nature is on board.”
