Vehicle Release Procedure

A motor vehicle impounded pursuant to section 22-43 Code of Decatur, shall be released by the Decatur Police Department, subject to the following requirements:

  1. The registered owner appears at the Decatur Police Department and presents:
    • his/her valid driver’s license; and
    • evidence of current liability insurance for the vehicle and
    • one of the following documents evidencing ownership:
      • the original vehicle title; or
      • a copy of both the front and back of the original title; or
      • the current vehicle tag receipt in the registered owner’s name; or
      • a copy of the current vehicle tag receipt in the registered owner’s name; and
    • payment of a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) processing/administration fee to the City of Decatur.
      Money Order or Cashier’s Check Only. No cash will be accepted.
  2.  A registered owner not in possession of a valid driver’s license appears at the Decatur Police Department and presents:
    • photo identification clearly establishing his/her identity as the registered owner of the impounded vehicle; and
    • meeting the requirements listed in section 1: b, c, and d.Additionally, a registered owner not in possession of a valid driver’s license must be accompanied by at least one (1) validly licensed driver AND must execute appropriate documentation certifying the vehicle will be driven from the storage lot by a validly licensed driver or properly removed by other lawful means.
  3. A representative of the registered owner appears at the Decatur Police Department and presents:
    • his/her valid driver’s license; and
    • written notarized authorization from the registered owner allowing for the release of the impounded vehicle to the named representative; and meeting the requirements listed in section 1: b, c, and d.

After obtaining a written release from the Decatur Police Department, the person redeeming the motor vehicle shall then make payment in full to the wrecker service responsible for the towing and storage of the vehicle for the costs attributable to the towing and storage of said vehicle.

Proceso de recuperación de vehículos

Los vehiculo confiscados como consecuencia del código 22-43 de la ciudad de Decatur. Serán devueltos por el departamento de policía de Decatur sujetos a los siguientes requisitos:

  1. La persona a la cual pertenezca el registro del vehiculo debe de presentar al departamento de policía de Decatur.
    • Una licencia de conducir valida
    • evidencia de aseguransa de su vehiculo valida
    • uno de los siguientes documentos que compruebe que el vehiculo es de su propiedad.
      • el titulo original de el vehiculo o
      • copia de ambos lados de el titulo original de el vehiculo
      • o el registro de la placa de el vehiculo a nombre de el propietario
      • o copia de el recibo de la placa de el vehiculo a nombre de el propietario
    • y el pago de veinte cinco dólares ($25.00) por honorarios de proceso de administración de de la cuidad de Decatur.
      Solo cheque certificado, no se acepta dinero en efectivo.
  2. El propietario de un vehiculo sin licencia de conducir valida debe presentar al departamento de policía de Decatur:
    • identificación con fotografía que compruebe claramente su identidad como propietario de el vehículo confiscado
    • cumplir con los requisitos enlistado en la sección 1: b, c, y d.Adicionalmente el propietario de un vehículo sin licencia de conducir valida debe de acompañarse por una persona que tenga una licencia de conducir valida y debe presentar documentación certificando que el vehículo será propiamente conducido de el estacionamiento de policía por una persona con licencia de conducir valida o por cualquier otro termino legal.
  3. El representante de el propietario de el vehículo comparecerá en el Departamento de policía de Decatur y presentara:
    • una licencia de conducir valida
    • una autorización notificada por el propietario de el vehículo a nombre de el representante permitiendo la entrega del vehículo.
    • Cumpliendo los requisitos enlistados en la sección 1: b, c, y d.

Después de obtener la entrega por escrito de el departamento de la policía de Decatur. La persona que recobre el vehículo deberá hacer un pago completo por los costos de grúa y almacenamiento de dicho vehículo.
