A Letter from the Mayor
Welcome to the City of Decatur!
This city of opportunity has much to offer residents, visitors, and the businesses and industries that call Decatur home. A diverse economic base, quality schools, safe neighborhoods, and active community organizations combine to keep Decatur growing and thriving.
Decatur’s vibrant arts and entertainment district downtown showcases art and performance venues – including the Alabama Center for the Arts, historic Princess Theatre, and Carnegie Visual Arts Center; unique shopping and dining experiences; plus family friendly monthly community events. Major centers around Decatur feature favorite national stores as well as home-owned specialty shops and boutiques. From fine dining to well-known favorites to casual delis, dining options abound. And, we’re home to the world champion Big Bob Gibson’s Barbeque.
We work hard and we like to play hard, too. Decatur has 27 city parks and 17 playgrounds. Plus, our location on the Tennessee River lets you be on the water to fish or boat in minutes. We encourage outdoor activities in many ways, including our ever-expanding bike trail, Point Mallard Park, Delano Park and Rose Garden, Riverwild Children’s Garden, Wilson Morgan Park, Jack Allen Soccer Complex, and Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.
What makes this community unique is the Southern hospitality and giving spirit found in the hearts of Decatur residents. It is why so many make Decatur their home and why visitors return again and again.
We welcome your suggestions and hope you will contact any of our officials or department heads at any time. We are here to help you.
Sincerely,
Tab Bowling
Mayor
