Department Function / Responsibilities:
The Building Department is responsible for the issuance of all construction permits for the City that includes new construction, additions to existing structures, repairs/remodeling of existing structures, installation of signs, fuel gas systems, HVAC units, electrical repairs, demolition of structures, and issuance of certificates of occupancy. The enforcement of the zoning ordinance and flood plain management regulations fall within the department’s responsibilities. The fire marshal for the city coordinates with the department in plan review and inspection functions to insure that new and existing buildings are in compliance with the fire code.
