As part of Alabama’s 200th anniversary of statehood, the historic depot in Decatur will receive Blue Star Memorial status on April 21, according to David Breland, director of historic resources for the city.
The designation is a “tribute to the men and women who have faithfully served out nation in the armed forces,” he said.
Breland said the depot is receiving the Blue Star marker because hundreds of veterans traveled from and returned home at the depot.
The ceremony to unveil the marker will be at 10 a.m., and the program will recognize all veterans, especially those who traveled to or from service through the depot.
