City Upgrades Its Emergency Message Coverage
Decatur residents will now receive extended emergency message coverage through expanded service from existing community notice provider Everbridge-Nixle.
Current subscribers to Nixle can read alerts and advisories published by organizations such as the Decatur Police Department via email and text message.
New additions to the community notification system will include:
- Location targeting for messages
- Anonymous tipping and real-time chat communication between residents and responders
- Voice messages
- Access to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS)
“Connectivity is essential for today’s emergency response systems. The upgrade allows us to communicate with residents through a more adaptive information-gathering platform and provides a streamlined structure for us to broadcast alerts and notices,” says Police Chief Nate Allen.
Those wishing to subscribe to Nixle can text their zip code to 888777 or register on Nixle’s website.
Funds and support have been provided through the City’s Information Systems Department.
